AGIASOS

Agiasos is a lot of things together: Tradition, Culture, Spirituality, Art and Nature. Vegetation in all the shades of green, so dense that you have the impression that you are not on an island. Dense forests of chestnut trees, walnut trees, fir trees, oak trees, but also thyme and wild shrubs growing on the stone-paved roads, paths that lead you to the most beautiful corners of the area. It is one of the most picturesque and beautiful villages of Lesvos, since it is nestled in the verdant slopes of Mount Olympus.

The narrow alleys, the flowered balconies and the houses with impressive wooden "Turkish style” balconies form a superb scenery.

The inhabitants of the village are keeping their traditions and customs, preserving the local colours of Agiasos. The village is famous for its fine potteries and wood carvings which can be bought from its popular art shops. In Agiasos there also shops that sell special ceramics, icons in silver frames, soap and many other local products. Furthermore, it has an Ecclesiastical and Folk Art Museum.

The great festival takes place on the 15^th August in honor of the Virgin Mary. Thousands of pilgrims, locals and visitors, come to the village to see the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, while the recent years hundreds of them, mostly the young walk all the way from Mytilini as well as from other villages and arrive to the village on foot.

Agiassos is also famous for its unique trekking routes as well as its flora and fauna.

The Chestnut and the Cherry Festival that take place in Agiasos are also very popular.
