GERA
Gera is situated in the northeast of Lesvos surrounded by lust natural resources. The combination of thousands of acres of olive groves, hills covered with pine forests, beautiful beaches and picturesque villages compose a scenery of abundant natural beauty that charms the visitors from the very first moment. Moreover, the area has been placed among the European Program "Special Areas of Nature's Preservation” of the net NATURA 2000.
The beautiful town squares with the huge plane trees and the small picturesque coffee-shops, the several chapels scattered in the entire area and especially the gulf of Gera – a superb monument of nature- are some of the characteristics of this town. Traditional buildings and old mansions of marvelous architecture can be seen in the municipality of Gera. Admirable segments of wall-paintings of the famous painter Theofilos exist in good condition in an old bakery in Mesagros. The fountains that decorate the town squares and the village churches are of great significance.
The most beautiful and most organized beach is that of Tarti, with crystal clear water, situated at the foot of a lush green hill. Every summer many tourists visit Gera and enjoy the fresh fish at the picturesque taverns.
Other beautiful beaches are those of Katsinia, Myrsinia (or Tsilia), Ligonari, Gialliotissa and Nilefkos. Tarti beach Tsilia beach
The hot springs of Gera were built during the Turkish occupation. Nowadays there are open to the public for a small amount. They offer different sectors for men and women. The water's temperature is 18C. There is a massage room for those who want to enjoy a massage after a hot bath.
