PETRA

Petra (Stone), located in the north part of the island, just 4 km from Molyvos, is mentioned in the Homers Iliad as the mythical anchorage of Achilles. The village is overlooked by the church of the "Virgin Mary Glikofilousa" or "Sweet Kissing”, built in 1747, on the top of a rock, 30 meters high. This strategic place of construction has to do with the period of pirates' attack. You can reach the top of the rock by climbing the 114 steps carved into the stone. The village takes its name from this rock.

Among the fine sandy beach of Petra there is a big variety in restaurants and cafes to choose from.

Opposite the beach there are three small, isolated islands that you may visit with a fish boat.
