POLICHNITOS

This small town is situated at 45 kilometers west of Mytilini and is famous for its hot springs. Most of the houses and mansions in Polichnitos are made of heavy stones, forming, with the churches and the remains of the Castle, an attractive and traditional picture. In Polichnitos are also the crossroads to Mytilini, Kalloni and several nearby beaches and villages like Skala Polichnitos, Nyfida and the beautiful beach of Vatera. In the area, which is very green with pine trees, there are plenty of opportunities to make walks. The Historical Folklore Museum is also open to the public for those who are interested in the great historical tradition of the area.

You will find the Therapeutic Natural Spas of Polichnitos, which are one of the most popular on the island, on the road leading from Polichnitos to Vatera. Spa waters spout from numerous springs passing through primary and secondary volcanic porous rocks. The bath temperatures range between 42 C and 44 C.
